luring the fashion elite to Gare du Nord for their runway show, Louis Vuitton Nicolas Ghesquiere, the creative inspiration behind Louis Vuitton’s fall/winter designs, presented his Parisian audience with a runway presentation at the Gare du Nord on Monday night. With shoulder pads evocative of the 1980s, crumpled boots, and a variety of pursues to mention a few, the collection displayed futuristic combinations of patterns. Models walked past rows of seated guests in an enclosed patio immediately across the street from the Paris train station as if they were storming through a crowded station.
The initial model’s vivid red trousers, with a gathered, elastic waist and ankle ties, were hidden under a smoky, see-through raincoat. She matched the trousers with a vibrant shirt. She looked teased, her hair sloppily brushed to one side. More sporty designs, including nylon jackets with hoods and zippered pockets, were set against dressier ones such layered skirts and lace slip dresses.
Playing a repeat of Kraftwerk’s “Trans-Europe Express,” the LVMH-owned firm incorporated record cover images into several designs to welcome guests. The French first lady, Brigitte Macron, rose from her seat at the end of the presentation and hugged Ghesquiere. Known to wear Louis Vuitton for formal events, Macron sat with the Arnault family. Among the world-class designers whose presentations finished Tuesday at Paris Fashion Week were Dior, Hermes, Chanel, Saint Laurent, Victoria Beckham, and Stella McCartney.
